Psycho Bitch is a one-woman show about Tamara Robert’s experiences living with mental illness. She takes us on an inspiring journey through her numerous attempts to seek help, looking to the church, new age healing and finally psychotherapy for answers as they try to determine what “brand of crazy” she is. Robert is a marvelous storyteller, aptly representing various characters using different voices and expressive body movements. At one point, she delivers an epic monologue that gave us goosebumps and several people in the audience had tears in their eyes. Her emotional performance left us in awe and we wonder how she goes through the same ordeal on stage every night. We watch as she learns to love and accept herself, and in the end she teaches others to do the same. It’s a shame that there is still such a social stigma attached to mental health issues. People shouldn’t have to suffer in silence. In Psycho Bitch Robert creates a “stigma-free zone,” wearing her heart on her sleeve for all to see. She’s the sweetest “bitch” we’ve ever encountered, that’s for sure. We left feeling full of love and hope. Thanks for the cathartic experience, Tamara. Psycho Bitch runs until July 10th at the Solo Room. Visit the Toronto Fringe website for more information.
